You’ve captured so much of love and longing. I love the transition from the man who, like the forgotten bag, held scraps of the world and a hope that it, somehow, would define him to who I know you as today—aware of not only who you are, but what the longings are and where the hunger lives.

I also love the sense of travel from home to world to home to understanding the desire for home of your own.

…”like it wants to be the bag I have now” is my favourite line. I see the man you were then the same—like it wants to be the man you are now.

I love you. And as I’ve said before, you would be a terrific father.

My only quasi-connection with you in recent years has been this blog, but I’ve inferred the deep love you have for your brother’s and sister’s kids… and my gut feeling is that you would be a wonderful father.

I just turned 40; when my mother was my age I was 15. There is no way I can imagine being responsible for a teenager. I’m willing to be auntie but not mommy.
