Love your choices, Alex! Giovanni’s Room (one of my favorite novels) would have been on my list, except I included last year it on a list for IFC of books that should be filmed, and I didn’t want to repeat myself. Weirdly, I thought about The Passion and First Love, too, but haven’t read them in forever and didn’t have time to be sure they’d hold up.

Kudos to 1, 2, 3, 8, and having not read Children’s Hospital yet, I’d put his first novel Gob’s Grief on this list too-doomed love of sibling for sibling, and Whitmans’ for all the dead.
