Yay!
The Donger & AMH's character have always been my favorite. Seems lots of high schools have either exchange students or immigrants (or, in phs' case, Somalian refugees) & they're always special in their own way. The Donger is just another one of the ones that was accepted by the more tolerant, open minded & potentially extremely intellectually or artistically successful.
Thank u for being successful & from the cape & ethnically different.

Hmm. I'm sitting here trying to fulfill an assignment (that I readily agreed to) to write about what it means to be Korean American in light of recent news from North and South Koreas--news that garnered U.S. attention. And as I read your post, I ask if this is why I’m having such difficulty finding a narrative position in this essay. Am I like Dong eating quiche? I see that I’m also the expectant table waiting for my own response. Yes, it’s complex, and sometimes muddier than otherwise. Thanks for your perspective.

Greta, thanks. Meanwhile, last night I just called you my favorite atheist to someone who had your comics anthology on his shelf at home, which, btw, is bananas great.

Interesting post. I always got puzzled when people excoriated Long Duck Dong as a "stereotype." A grossly insulting and bigoted characterization? Yes. But a stereotype? Since when is "wild, drunken, sex- crazed party animal" a stereotype of Asians? Maybe I'm just being uncharacteristically nitpicky about language... but that always bugged me a little. Anyway, thanks for the great post.
